My Everyday Makeup Essentials
Long time, no blog! My last post was back in November, so I feel like I’ve got a lot to catch up on, but first things first, let’s talk about makeup, or more specifically, my current everyday makeup essentials! For the last few months, I’ve been trying to stick to a low buy and shop my stash so I’ve been putting together some monthly curated capsules that I use on a day to day basis for a simple and quick put together look that I can wear to work or I can wear out.
I’ve been finding that concentrating on specific products for a whole month has really helped me feel like I’m actually using my makeup up and I’ve even managed to hit tiny pan on one of my face powders. There’s a few products that I stick to on a month to month basis but generally, everything else is rotated nicely which allows me to find old favourites and make sure I dispose of any expired products on a regular basis.
The Balm Put a Lid On It Eyelid Primer $19.95 Priceline
One of my favourite budget buys of 2018! I bought this to replace my Urban Decay Primer Potion and it’s awesome! I can definitely see a difference in the longevity of my eye shadow when I don’t use this.
I picked this up on a whim when I had my Beauty Loop makeup application recently. I love eye shadow sticks for one and done looks and this one is such a fetching champagne shade that looks really elegant on it’s own! It also takes two seconds to apply and blend!
Hourglass Caution Extreme Lash Mascara $44 Mecca
My holy grail mascara and one product I’ll be so sad to dispose of come the end of March. I pick these up in the travel sizes rather than the full size for this exact reason. This mascara lengthens and curls and makes my lashes look huge!
Flower Beauty Shimmer & Strobe Highlighting Palette $9.99 Chemist Warehouse
I picked this palette up because it was under $10 for three shades of highlighter and I was blown away the first time I used it. All three shades are incredibly pigmented and can very easily be over applied. It took a few goes and a few different brushes before I worked out what worked best.
WHAT’S IN MY MARCH EVERYDAY MAKEUP ESSENTIALS KIT?
I was very glad when Mecca announced they would be stocking Laura Mercier as I had almost finished my tube and was desperate to repurchase without having to spend a fortune in shipping. This tinted moisturiser is quite sheer but gives a heck of a glow, even though it’s oil free. It does break down towards the end of the day on my oily skin but doesn’t look bad in the process - more of a slow fade.
Fenty Beauty Invisimatte Blotting Powder $46 Sephora
One of my favourite setting powders to date! This pressed powder sets down the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser without smothering the glow and also helps reduce the look of my pores which is quite handy. I carry this around in my bag for touch ups during the day and it doesn’t look cakey at all, even if I haven’t blotted prior to touching up.
Benefit Precisely, My Brow Pencil (3 - Medium) $43 Sephora
I really enjoy a fine tipped pencil for filling my brows as I have small patches of sparseness which only require the lightest of hands before my brows turn in to block brows so this product is perfect for a quick flick through before setting with gel.
Glossier Boy Brow (Brown) US$16 Glossier.com
So very over rated in my humble opinion. I did like this at first but after rotating with Benefit Gimme Brow, I think I prefer the Benefit gel better. I’ll probably only get one more month’s use out of this tube anyway.
Flower Beauty Flower Pots Powder Blush (Warm Sweet Pea) $13.99 Chemist Warehouse
This is a lovely shade of delicate pink but it can pack a punch! I was very impressed with this blush from the get go. I’d certainly recommend it for oily skinned makeup lovers and for anyone who loves a bit of a rosy glow.
Becca Sunlit Bronzer (Capri Coast) $58 Sephora
This bronzer was a product that I wasn’t 100% sold on at first but it’s grown on me. I like that isn’t completely flat matte but isn’t packed with shimmer either. I can be a little heavy handed with this and it doesn’t look muddy so I enjoy this product for being able to just rush on with applying.
Nars Velvet Lip Glide (Unlaced) $40 Mecca
Unf. This little baby I picked up in a Mecca Beauty Loop box and I am obsessed! The formula is an absolute winner, doesn’t dry down completely and therefore, doesn’t turn my lips in to a mauve butthole after twenty minutes. The colour is absolutely divine too, a slightly brighter my lips but better in my case.
I try to always have more than one lip option
